Too many choices

Emmanuel is in Year 9 and looking forward to starting his GCSE courses in September. Alongside English and maths, he'll be studying triple science, PE and French.

Emmanuel enjoys making and repairing things and is aiming for a career in engineering. He's a student who does well in most areas, which can make choosing options even harder than usual. He found talking to his Connexions personal adviser very helpful. He got impartial advice that helped him to focus on his decision-making and put himself first. The adviser stressed that Emmanuel should choose subjects he enjoys as well as those that will help him with his career plans.

Case Study Quote

When I had to make my choices, I was advised to choose carefully, to look at options I would have fun doing, not what I feel I have to do because everyone else is taking them. My Connexions personal adviser also suggested that I consider my future ambitions when making my choices.
