Do you need a bit more time to build your confidence and gain basic qualifications? If so, your school may offer you one of these learning programmes.

Your school will help you pick courses that suit you. You will learn:

  • practical skills in English, maths, and information and communication technology (ICT)
  • the skills you need to organise yourself, to work with other people and to get better at what you do
  • subjects that will help you in the future.

You could study some of the subjects you do now. You could also take some new subjects. The new subjects could show you what work is like and help you with your personal and social development. For example, you might be able to study:

  • Art
  • Business administration
  • Citizenship studies
  • Construction

  • Hospitality

  • Preparation for work

What qualifications you could get

Your school will pick qualifications that suit you. For example, you might work towards:

  • functional skill awards, certificates or GCSEs in English, maths and information and communication technology (ICT)
  • a Foundation Diploma
  • a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) at level 1
  • a BTEC Introductory Certificate
  • an ASDAN Certificate of Personal Effectiveness (CoPE Award)
  • an OCR Certificate or Diploma in Retail Skills
