Entering a competitive area

Rowan's in Year 11. He's about to take his GCSEs and complete his BTEC First Certificate in Business Studies.

Rowan wants a career in the video games industry - specifically in computer games design. He's done a lot of research to help him work out how he can get to where he wants to be. He looks at the trade magazines and follows the progress and development of games companies. He's spoken to people in the industry about different entry routes. He's gathered information from the internet and careers publications.

He's discovered that he'll face stiff competition and will need to gain high level skills and plenty of experience. That's why he plans to take A Levels in the sixth form - Japanese, business studies and media and film studies - and then go on to university.

Case Study Quote

I am interested in media and film because one of my hobbies is creating and cutting videos and, since visiting Japan, I am very passionate about Japanese culture. I would like to learn the language, which could help me with my career progression.
