Comparing styles of learning

Francesca wants to work in events management. She's taking A Levels in product design, geography and business studies. She's now in Year 13 and close to completing her courses.

Reflecting back, Francesca says:

'A Levels can give you a lot more freedom during the school day than GCSEs as you get self-study periods. I've also found that they are designed to teach students independence to complete their work and attend lessons in order to get their desired grades. I often have to put in extra time if there are areas I don't understand, or if the teaching methods don't suit me.'

A Levels are different from GCSEs. Francesca would advise anyone considering taking A Levels to talk to people already doing the courses that interest them so that they know exactly what to expect.

Case Study Quote

I knew I wanted to continue my studies after Year 11, but I underestimated the jump from GCSE to A Level. The workload is considerably more than I had expected and the level is much more challenging.
