Learning

The skills I need

Key Skills

What you need to know

Key Skills are essential skills that you need in order to do well at school or college. They lead towards a qualification at Levels 1-4. All young people in post 16 full time education or in work-based learning will be able to learn Key Skills.

Key Skills will be replaced by functional skills in 2010.

What you can do

If you know that you are lacking a skill which potential employers really value, it is important to make sure that you develop that skill and make yourself more employable.

An example of this could be information communication technology (ICT). If you do not have basic computer skills - and most employers now are looking for people with a good knowledge of computers - then it would be a good idea to find out how you can get these skills and improve your chances of getting the job you really want.
