Work

Before getting a job

Work - Looking for a job? Get hunting

What you need to know

Finding a job can be hard, but there's lots of help out there for you.

Firstly, do your homework and find out whether you have the skills to do the different jobs that you have in mind.

Also, find out the sort of pay and hours of work you can expect with that job.

If you are physically disabled, check out the physical access to the premises where you will be working.

You will also need to decide if you want to work full-time or if it is a part-time or seasonal job that you are after.

What you can do

  • If you're looking for a part-time or Saturday job you can ask your friends and neighbours if they know of any jobs available. You can also look in local shop windows and newspapers, or on school and college notice boards, to see if anything suitable is being advertised.
  • Over 18s can also use your local job centre. Think about calling Jobseeker Direct on 0845 6060 234 or visit their website at www.jobcentreplus.gov.uk
  • Employment agencies deal with temporary and permanent part-time and full-time jobs. They take your details and will contact you if any jobs come up that suit your qualifications, interests or skills.
Advisers are here between 8am and 2am. Talk to us in confidence >>
