What you need to know

Going to university is a great opportunity for thousands of people throughout the UK.

As well as gaining extra qualifications, you will become more independent, be able to try new activities and meet lots of new people. You will be able to develop new skills, and gain confidence.

You must be prepared to work hard and to manage your own time.

You will be able to gain a certificate, diploma or degree depending on the course you take.

You might be able to get into student accommodation, so make sure you enquire about this as well as thoroughly checking what financial support you might be entitled to.

What you can do

  • Attend an open day. Have a good look around and ask lots of questions
  • If you are a disabled student, find out if the university has any access issues and if it is doing anything to improve them
  • Most universities have websites for you to look at
  • Send off for a brochure or prospectus
  • Talk to people you know who have already been to university to get a feel for what it will be like
Advisers are here between 8am and 2am. Talk to us in confidence >>
