Renting a house

What you need to know

Moving out of home can be an exciting time and the independence can be great. But it also brings new responsibilities and there's a few things you need to know before you can go ahead and sign that contract.

What you can do

  • Work out a realistic budget so you know what you can afford.
  • Consider who you want to live with and how may people, or do you want your own place.
  • Think about your location, transport and parking requirements.
  • Remember that you'll have bills to pay and living costs such as food and transport - not just a social budget.
  • When do you want to move and is it realistic.
  • Is renting the best option for you - should you be considering buying a property.
